How to Prep Your Skin for Your Wedding Day

INTRODUCTION

Your wedding day is one of the most photographed days of your life. With all eyes on you, you’ll want your skin to look flawless in all those pictures. As a beauty professional, I’m sharing my top tips on how to prep your skin so you’re glowing on your big day:

START EARLY

Don’t wait until the last minute—start caring for your skin weeks in advance. Our skin can take up to 6 months to get used to any change in our skincare routine, so make sure to get on a regimen that keeps your skin healthy, hydrated and radiant as soon as possible before your big day

  • Exfoliate 2-3 times a week to reveal fresh, smooth skin.

  • Use a moisturizing face mask 1-2 times a week as well.

GET MONTHLY FACIALS

Facials Address Your Skin Concerns thoroughly cleanse, exfoliate and nourish the skin. When done monthly, they make a big difference in how your skin looks and feels. Book your next facial with MakeupShonti and I’d be happy to get you to your skin goals just in time for the big day!

  • If you tend to be oily, use oil-control products to prevent shine.

  • For dry skin, use gentle cleansers and rich creams.

  • Breakouts and acne can be tackled with medicated cleansers and spot treatments.

  • Uneven skin tone improves with vitamin C and brightening products.

  • A dermaplane facial delivers instant brightening and softening results!

DRINK LOTS OF WATER

Proper hydration plumps up the skin, giving it a dewy glow. Drink at least 64 oz of water daily, more if you can. With Stanley cups being all the rage right now, picking one up to stay hydrated throughout the day wouldn’t hurt!

  • Limit alcohol and caffeine, which dehydrate.

  • Eat foods with lots of moisture too, like cucumbers, berries and melons.

PROTECT YOUR SKIN DAILY

Wear broad spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen every single day, even on cloudy day, when it’s raining and event indoors. Try picking up a travel friendly sunscreen (I like the Cera Ve one!) and reapply it every 2 hours if outdoors. This protects from sun damage that leads to premature aging.

  • Avoid the use of tanning beds and sitting in direct sunlight

  • Don’t pick at your skin or ingrown hairs….Leave it to the professionals (Me hehe!)

GET A TRIAL RUN

Schedule your makeup trial as soon as possible run as soon as possible before your wedding day. Typically I recommend trials to be scheduled 3-4 months in advance just to have that peace of mind that your final look will come up exactly as you imagine.

If you dedicate to caring for your skin properly in the months before your big day, your complexion will have that smooth natural glow. Did you learn anything new,? Let me know in the comments and if you have any other skin prep questions!
